Colorado is one of the best places in the country for a micro wedding—and not just because the scenery is insanely beautiful (though, yeah… it is). From cozy mountain lodges and private estates to iconic national parks and tucked-away alpine towns, Colorado gives you endless options to gather your favorite humans and celebrate without turning your wedding into a full-blown production.
This guide breaks down the best Colorado micro wedding venues by region, so you can find a location that actually fits your guest count, priorities, and vibe—without spiraling through Pinterest boards or spending months deep in Google rabbit holes.
What is a Micro Wedding? (Colorado Edition)
A Micro Wedding is an intimate wedding experience with 10-50 guests. In Colorado, Micro Weddings are typically hosted at a mountain lodge, private estate, ranch, boutique hotel, or stunning outdoor location, like Maroon Bells or Rocky Mountain National Park. Micro weddings give you the space to slow down, be present, and actually celebrate with the people who matter most—without the chaos, crowds, or cookie-cutter timelines of a traditional wedding.
One of the biggest perks? Micro weddings let you splurge where it actually matters to you. Instead of spreading your budget thin, couples often invest in things like an incredible photographer, a private chef dinner, luxury lodging, or turning their wedding into a retreat-style weekend—think slow mornings, shared meals, adventure days, and late-night conversations with your favorite humans.
In Colorado, micro weddings also offer more flexibility when it comes to guest count, ceremony locations, permits, and overall flow—making it easier to design a wedding that feels intentional, personal, and wildly you.
This guide breaks down the best Colorado micro wedding venues by region, vibe, and guest count—so you can find a place that actually fits your celebration, not just your Pinterest board.

Rocky Mountain National Park Micro Wedding Venues
If you’re dreaming of saying “I do” with alpine lakes, rugged peaks, and a little wind in your hair, while being surrounded by a few of your favorite humans, Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) might just be the place for you. Think sunrise vows at Dream Lake, epic portraits under the pines, or a champagne toast surrounded by golden aspens — it’s Colorado magic at its finest.
Before you pack the champagne and hiking boots, here’s the deal: RMNP is one of the most protected and sought-after micro wedding and elopement locations in the state, which means permits are limited (and they go fast). The park only allows 60 total wedding permits per month from May-October, 40 total wedding permits per month from November-April, and caps ceremonies at 30 people total — including your photographer and officiant. (What better way to tell your parents you won’t be inviting all 20 of your cousins and their friends) You’ll need to secure a Special Use Permit through the National Park Service (currently $300) and choose from one of the park’s approved ceremony sites at least one year in advance— each with its own vibe, group size limit, and accessibility level.
Why my micro wedding and elopement couples LOVE RMNP
- Unreal alpine backdrops that change with every season
- Easy access to stunning locations with or without full-day hikes (depending on your vibe!!)
- Perfect blend of adventure and accessibility for guests
- Dark skies for astro photos
- Endless options nearby for post-ceremony celebrations (Estes Park, anyone?)

Crested Butte Micro Wedding Venues
If your idea of “wedding planning” looks more like choosing between a wildflower meadow or a mountain overlook, welcome to Crested Butte — where the air smells like pine and freedom, and every direction looks like a freaking postcard.
This tiny mountain town is pure magic – the kind that makes you never want to leave. Crested Butte was built for Micro Weddings! With intentional, laid-back and a little bit wild vibes, I can’t imagine a better place to say, “fuck yes!” to forever!
Most of Crested Butte sits on National Forest or BLM land so you may need a Special Use permit for some ceremony sites. For groups between 25-30 people the process is fairly simple – and I can help guide you through it! Something to keep in mind while planning certain spots (like Kebler Pass or Gothic Road) are closed November-May and lodging books up fast during wild flower season – so plan early!

Why my micro wedding and elopement couples LOVE Crested Butte
- Unreal views — Paradise Divide, Kebler Pass, Gothic Road… take your pick.
- Wildflower heaven — mid-June through early August, the whole valley explodes in color.
- True adventure vibes — jeep roads, alpine lakes, and hidden overlooks everywhere you turn.
- Fall colors and skiing/snowboarding heaven from Fall to Winter!
- Cozy-meets-luxury lodging and local gems for post-ceremony dinners (looking at you, Secret Stash & Elk Ave Prime).
- A weekend that actually feels like a celebration, not a schedule.

How to Choose the Right Colorado Micro Wedding Venue
Guest Count
Start here. Many Colorado micro wedding venues cap guest counts anywhere from 10–65 people, and some locations include vendors in that total. Knowing who you want present will immediately narrow your options—and save you from falling in love with a spot that can’t actually accommodate your people.
Accessibility
Not every beautiful place is easy to get to, and that’s okay—as long as it fits your priorities. Think about hiking distance, elevation, terrain, parking, and whether all of your guests can comfortably access the ceremony location. The goal isn’t “easy,” it’s intentional.
Permits & Restrictions
Many Colorado micro wedding venues—especially those on public land—require permits, have noise or time restrictions, and limit décor or guest counts. A permit gives you permission, not privacy, which is why understanding the rules (and planning around them) matters more than most blogs will tell you.
On-Site vs. Nearby Lodging
Venues with on-site lodging make it easier to turn your wedding into a full weekend experience, while others rely on nearby Airbnbs, hotels, or lodges. Think about whether you want everyone under one roof or if spreading out makes more sense for your group.
Pro tip: Not all Airbnbs or VRBOs allow events—even small micro weddings. Always confirm the property’s event policy before booking to avoid last-minute cancellations or awkward surprises.
Season & Weather
Colorado is stunning year-round, but access, conditions, and crowds change dramatically by season. Some venues are only accessible part of the year, snow can linger well into late spring, and summer afternoons often bring quick storms. Flexibility—and realistic expectations—go a long way here.
Overall Vibe & Experience
This one matters more than people think. Ask yourself how you want the day to feel. Relaxed and retreat-style? Elevated and intimate? Adventure-forward with a cozy dinner after? The right venue supports the experience you’re trying to create—not just the photos.

Colorado Micro Wedding Photography Packages
Micro weddings are intimate by design—but that doesn’t mean they’re simple. Between hosting guests, choosing a venue, planning the flow of the day, and actually being present, a lot of moving pieces still exist. My role is to document your celebration honestly and beautifully while helping the day feel calm, intentional, and easy going—not like you’re juggling logistics or watching the clock.
While I’m not a micro wedding planner, I do support my couples with thoughtful guidance rooted in years of experience photographing intimate celebrations across Colorado. That way, you get stunning photos and a day (or weekend) that actually feels like the wedding you’ve always dreamed of.
Why Couples Hire Me
Couples hire me because micro weddings live in the in-between moments—and that’s where I thrive. The hugs that linger, the quiet conversations, the way hosting your people can feel just as meaningful as the ceremony itself.
What you’re really looking for is an experience that feels easy. You want to be able to show up, be yourselves, and enjoy your wedding day without worrying about how you look, where to stand, or whether you’re “doing it right.” You don’t want stiff posing, forced moments, or a photographer who makes the day feel performative—you want someone who helps everything feel natural, comfortable, and grounded.
You want a photographer who fits into your day without taking it over. Someone who understands your vision without you having to over-explain it, who keeps things moving when they need to, and who knows when to step back and let moments unfold on their own. Someone calm, organized, and quietly paying attention—so you can stay present with your people instead of managing logistics or watching the clock.
And when it’s all said and done, you want photos that bring you right back. Not just to what your micro wedding looked like, but to how it felt. The laughter, the emotion, the small in-between moments you didn’t even realize were happening. Images that feel honest, emotional, and deeply personal—because they reflect who you are and the experience you actually lived.
That’s the kind of micro wedding experience I’m here to protect—so you can focus on the people you love and let everything else fall into place.

Colorado Micro Wedding FAQ’s
Most Colorado micro weddings fall somewhere between $5,000–$30,000, depending on guest count, venue, vendors, and overall experience. Because the guest list is smaller, many couples choose to invest more intentionally in things like photography, food, lodging, or turning their wedding into a full weekend retreat.
Sometimes. Many venues on public land—such as national parks, state parks, and national forests—require permits and have guest count or location restrictions. Private venues may not require permits, but often have their own rules or event policies, which is why it’s important to confirm details early.
Yes, micro weddings are allowed in several Colorado national parks, including Rocky Mountain National Park—but permits are required and ceremonies are limited to designated locations. Guest counts, timing, and availability vary by park, and popular dates often book far in advance.
Summer and fall are the most popular seasons thanks to accessibility, wildflowers, and fall colors.
Sometimes—but not always. Many Airbnb and VRBO properties restrict events, even for small groups, so it’s important to confirm the property’s event policy before booking. I always recommend getting written confirmation to avoid last-minute issues.
Not necessarily, but I always recommend one because getting married shouldn’t be stressful. However, while I’m not a micro wedding planner, I do help my couples with timeline guidance, location flow, and vendor recommendations so the day feels smooth and well-paced. So it really boils down to your budget and what vendors/experiences you want to prioritize.
Most couples book their Colorado micro wedding photographer 6–12 months in advance, especially for peak summer and fall dates. Popular venues and regions can fill quickly, so earlier booking gives you the most flexibility.
